1906-1939 Egyptian Zar Silver Pendant

$140.00

Weighs Approx: 16g , Measures Approx: 1.5 × 2.5 inches (the pendant, itself). 1 small tarnished/corrosion spot on one side. Includes 6 bells, one has a significant dent. The Egyptian hallmarks tell me that this is between 70%-90% silver, that it was prior to 1946 (the lotus replaced the cat , in the middle of the hallmarks), and the third Hallmark, being a Roman letter, tells me that it was made prior to 1940, when Arabic letters started being used. This is what is referred to as an Egyptian “zar” silver pendant. Zar ceremonies helped to rid a person from evil spirits, a sort of “exorcism” if you will. I don’t have a full translation of the text, but from what I could find, it appears as though it is, or maybe is important verse (s) from the Quran. There are quite a few out there, and vary quite a bit.
